Customer of the MonthApril

Patrick Grisafi

It won’t take long into reading this Q&A for many of you to find something you relate to. We are honored to have Pat Grisafi as our April Athlete of the Month honor. Again, this goes to a guy who wasn’t looking for it, this honor has never been a goal and he actually hates writing about himself. We do however appreciate the level of consistency, coachability and trust he has in our staff to help him navigate his fitness goals. Pat has been a member since August ’22. He’s a husband, father, former FDNY, current RN and all around awesome guy to be around. With past injuries, we have had great conversations put into action to address his shoulder health. Dr. Jeremy has helped him tremendously and gotten Pat out of pain with much more range of motion as well as knowledge about the dos and don’t in the gym. Pat’s trust in Dr. J as well as our coaching staff allows him to continue working out multiple days a week with only a few modifcations and feeling great. Diet is always a tricky topic (especially for a firefighter) but Pat is down 30+ lbs and that’s not just the beard. I’m sure the beard will make it’s return though. Keep up the hard work and thank you for giving “second act of life” as you put it.

Q&A
Why did you start functional fitness crush training?

As we age the importance of resistance & strength training, helps maintain healthy bone density. Which in return will help with fewer falls, and fewer fractures strength training, also improve his insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism. In short, I want to give myself the best chance to stick around for my little daughter.

What is your athletic background?
Swimming, wrestling, and martial arts.

How long have you been a member?
I’m not sure, you guys will know better than me. I guess that is a complement to the gym because I don’t look at it as terms of how long I’ve been here . I look at it as I’m just going.

What’s your favorite thing about the gym?
Pretty much exclusively go to the 5:30 AM class. I can’t emphasize enough what great group we got going on in the morning. There’s an unspoken camaraderie that we have in the morning, it’s contagious. For me, it helps to make my days busy days more organized. I am grateful for it.

What is the biggest challenge you have overcome since going to the gym?
Being CONSISTENT (How do you get to Carnegie Hall? practice….practice…..practice), it’s hard to get to the gym 3 to 5 days a week. Keep your diet consistent and also work , house chores, being a husband and a father. going to the gym really sets the tone to make all that run smoothly and I got to say a portion of it has to do with everybody I’m working out with in the morning.

What is your favorite cheat food?
Easiest question….. Oreos with full fat milk, ice cold, in steel glass. (Was that too specific?? lol).

What would you say to someone who is thinking about starting?
Starting is the hardest part. If you’re ready to put in an effort and be consistent, you’ll be rewarded.

What drives you?
To be a healthy husband/daddy for my girls.

What is your biggest fitness goal right now?
I would consider myself to be on the cusp of the second act of life. I’ve had two for careers, FDNY(ladder co.), and RN both of which you need to keep yourself in decent shape. For right now I’m looking to be consistent and just be able to move for as long as possible.
